Location Railroad Museum of New England - 242 E Main St, Thomaston, CT 06787, USA Theme Creativity blossomed in poetry, novels, music, and art during The Beat movement of the post-war years. "Beatniks" embraced an effortlessly cool, intellectual, and individual look. The style rejected artifice, was androgynous in silhouette, favoring denim, bohemian prints, or all black looks like Audrey Hepburn’s classic Funny Face dance in a Latin Quarter cafe. Tap into the rebellious and experimental ideas of Jack Kerouac, Amiri Baraka, Brenda Knight, & William S. Burroughs. Hop aboard RMNE's historic locomotives and bring this era back to life with your own contemporary twist. Models Prizes will be awarded to the model who rocks the beatnik theme with the most creativity and style. Consider July weather and expect to layer up or down, bring base neutrals you're comfortable in, and sturdy shoes to take full advantage of the space. We'll have an empty clothing rack, hangers, and a changing room available. As always, we celebrate individuality, style & creativity: please feel free to express that uniqueness. In other words, it's ok to get weird. Makeup: we currently have one volunteer space available for an MUA to offer free micro sessions for models on location during arrivals. Are you a makeup artist interested in connecting with creatives? Please let us know! First slam as a model? Have more questions? We created a video for you: https://www.portraitslam.com/videos Photographers We appreciate it when photographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't expected to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot. Please try to arrive by 5:30pm. After checking in, explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, check out Tamron's lenses, take a few test shots, and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 6pm. Afterwards, we begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Videography, off camera flash, and film photography are welcome but please check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.
