Theme:

Many ancient civilizations created gods, goddesses, and mythical leaders whom could be called on in times of famine, heartbreak, competition and war. Some were all powerful, some part human. Some stuck to their own realm while others meddled directly in the affairs of humans. The Greeks had Hera and Aphrodite. The Azteks had Coatlicue and Quetzalcoatl. The Egyptians had Ra and Isis. The Mayan's had Ixchel and Hunahpu. The Norse had Freja & Balder. The Chinese had Guanyin & Chang'e and the Yorube had Oshun and Oya.

Look towards literature and art for style inspiration. Seek to harmonize with the garden's minimalist designs & natural tones and textures. This theme is not a costume. Challenge yourself to incorporate aspects of god & goddess fashion into your own unique style.  Help inspire others by sharing outfits and/or accessories on Instagram - tag @portrait_slam and we'll share it.  As always, we celebrate individuality & creativity: please feel free to express that uniqueness. In other words, it's ok to get weird.

Models:

Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. Additional wardrobe will be provided on location by Jean Pierre Nugloze for models to incorporate into their look beginning at 5pm - please don't miss this! Prizes will be awarded to the model who rocks Jean Pierre's wardrobe with the most creativity & style. Consider spring weather and expect to layer up or down, bring base neutrals you're comfortable in, and sturdy shoes to take full advantage of the space.

Makeup: Jonathan Jacob will be offering free makeup styling on location before the slam, by appointment. Spots are limited - don't hesitate to reach out to Jonathan on Instagram at @jonnjacob to schedule and exchange ideas. Thanks Jonathan!

Photographers:

We appreciate it when photographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot.  Please arrive by 5:30pm. After checking in, explore the space for inspiring portrait location, sample gear by Pro Photo Supply and Tamron USA, and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 6pm. Afterwards, we begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Videography, off camera flash, and film photography are welcome but please check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.

Pro Photo Supply will be on-hand offering free gear rentals including lenses by Tamron USA throughout the slam - this is an excellent opportunity to try a new camera, lens, or light tool - thank you Pro Photo Supply!
