Theme: Film NoirÂ
Film noir is a cinematic term. Â The term "film noir" was first used to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas from the mid 20th century, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and motivations. The 1940s and 50's are generally regarded as the "classic period" of American film noir. Â Common elements of film noir include femme fatale, anti hero, and post-war disillusionment. Stark lighting techniques such as chiaroscuro, low-key & high-contrast were used to create mood, drama, and tension. Fashion often included long black gowns, fur trimmed coats, long gloves, heels, cigarette holders, trench coats, and wide brimmed hats. Noir's design philosophy often plays with contrast: shiny fabrics set against matt textiles and stringent lines combined with voluminous shapes. Â For inspiration, search "film noir" on Google or Pinterest. Consider contemporary or even futuristic spins on film noir fashion. Remember: our fashion theme is a prompt, not a costume. We welcome unique interpretations and celebrate diversity, body positivity, self-expression, style, and creativity. Feel free to get weird. Let us know if you have any questions or reach out to Elite Production Studios for inspiration.Â
Models:
Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. Â Additional wardrobe will be provided on location for models to incorporate into their look by Tacoma's D. Haberdashery. Â Models are welcome to visit D. Haberdashery during open hours at 748 Broadway Tacoma, WA to browse their curated collection of film nor inspired fashion (optional). They'll be giving away a prize to the model who gets most creative & engaging with their fashion (just for fun, slams are not competitions). Arrivals begin at 2pm. Â Please try to arrive by 2:30pm, in time for a mini model workshop warmup with our friends at Elite Production Studios & a lighting demo by Nanlite USA. We'll have a space designated for models inside the Georgetown Steam Plant for changing and model's belongings. Check in, explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, practice shooting with Nanlite lighting, and meet other creatives. Â Introductions begin at 3pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different photographers in quick 10 minute sessions.

Photographers:
We appreciate it when photographers & videographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot. Â Please try to arrive by 2pm, in time for lighting & gear demos. After checking in, browse Tamron's lenses, Nanlite's lighting, & Fujifilm cameras, all available to borrow on location. Kenmore Camera will be available to assist. Â Prizes will be given away at the end to the participants who get most creative and engaging with Fujifilm, Nanlite and Tamron gear (just for fun, slams are not competitions). Â Explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, take a few test shots and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 3pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Personal lighting and film photography are welcome but please tread lightly and check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.
