Theme: Glam Rock

Originally, glam rock was a musical movement that began in Britain in the early 1970s and celebrated the spectacle of the rock star. Often dappled with decadent makeup, glam rockers adopted theatrical personas and mounted glamorous musical productions, frequently characterized by futurism. In addition to wearing extraterrestrial platform shoes and sequin jumpsuits, glam rockers donned vintage leather jackets and ducktail haircuts - styles that were so old they were no longer in fashion, choosing to combine them with things that appeared too futuristic to be in fashion yet. This particular juxtaposition of styles provided a visual escape from reality and the present. Glam rock celebrated androgyny, helping redefine traditional tropes of masculinity through its unisex portrayal of male fashion. Please feel welcome to take a contemporary or futuristic approach to glam rock fashion. To see examples from our first glam rock slam, search #AOMSlam on Instagram or "Glam Rock Fashion" online. Please remember, our fashion theme is not a costume. We appreciate unique interpretations on our theme and celebrate diversity, body positivity, self-expression, style, and creativity. Models:

Please arrive dressed in your unique interpretation of the theme and be ready to shoot.  Rebekah Blake will be on-hand during arrivals offering micro sessions and touchups, first-come-first-serve. Starlook Studios will be offering model coaching & a fun warm-up for models during arrivals, beginning at 6:30pm. Hazy Daisy Floral Co. has created Glam Rock inspired florals for models. Arrivals begin at 6pm. We'll have a private space designated for models inside Hopscotch with a changing tent, rolling rack, and table for changing and model's belongings. Please bring hangers for any extra items. Check in, explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, browse wardrobe, and meet other creatives until introductions begin at 7pm. Please be prepared to work with many different photographers in quick 10 minute sessions.

Photographers:

We appreciate it when photographers & videographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot. Please try to arrive by 630pm, in time for lighting & gear demos. After checking in, browse Tamron's lenses and Nanlite's lighting, all available to borrow on location. Pro Photo Supply will be available to assist with gear. Prizes will be given away at the end to the participants who get most creative and engaging with Fujifilm, Nanlite and Tamron gear (just for fun, slams are not competitions).  Explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, take a few test shots and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 6pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Personal lighting and film photography are welcome but please tread lightly and check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.

This invitation is required to attend. To reserve your spot, please register and purchase your ticket after reading & agreeing to our rules on our website at portraitslam.com/rules.  Your ticket will become non-refundable after November 15th. Only registered participants are allowed to attend our events. Please check in with us in advance to request a special exception. We work hard to curate a balanced & diverse group of creatives. Please let us know in advance if you need to cancel.
