Theme: Gods & Goddesses
Many ancient civilizations created gods, goddesses, and mythical leaders whom could be called on in times of famine, heartbreak, competition and war. Some were all powerful, some part human. Some controlled the forces of the natural world: earth, wind, fire, & water. Some stuck to their own realm while others meddled directly in the affairs of humans. The Greeks had Hera and Aphrodite. The Azteks had Coatlicue and Quetzalcoatl. The Egyptians had Ra and Isis. The Mayan's had Ixchel and Hunahpu. The Norse had Freja & Balder. Ancient China had Guanyin & Chang'e and the Yorube had Oshun and Oya. Look towards literature, art, and the elements of nature for style inspiration. Vibe with the Powerhouse's natural tones and textures.
Our theme is not a costume. Challenge yourself to incorporate aspects of god & goddess fashion into your own unique style. For further inspiration, check out our "Gods & Goddesses" gallery from 2021's #PortlandSlam HERE. If you'd like to exchange ideas and coordinate with others, join the Portrait Slam Forum on Facebook. Portrait slams celebrate diversity, self-expression, style, individuality and creativity. Let us know if you have questions about our theme and, as always, don't be afraid to get weird.
Models:
Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. We are currently seeking additional wardrobe to be made available for models to incorporate into their look, stay tuned! Models will have their own dedicated changing room. If you plan to bring additional wardrobe items, please bring them on a hanger. Tamara Russell (@Vixens_Creations21) will be offering micro sessions & touchups during arrivals, beginning at 9:00am. Check in, explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, practice with lighting from Action Camera, meet other creatives, and browse wardrobe before introductions begin at 10:00am. We begin each slam by paring everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different photographers (and other models) in short micro sessions.
