Theme: 1980's Athleisure

The word ‘athleisure’ is a combination of athletic and leisure. Athleisure includes apparel designed for workouts and other athletic activities, but are not limited to being worn at the gym or while exercising. Athleisure wear can be rocked at casual social events and even at the workplace (track suits, yoga pants, sneakers, down puffies, sport caps, jerseys, ect.). 1980's athleisure was an explosion of color, patterns, and new technology. Iconic athleisure of the 80's include Addidas track suits, neon Lycra spandex, Walkman cassette players, sweat bands, windbreakers, slouchy sweatshirts, starter jackets, Zubaz pants, legwarmers, and high-top sneakers.  In the 1980's, Mike Tyson destroyed Michael Spinks in 91 seconds, USA hockey defeated the Soviet Union, Magic competed against Bird, the Chicago Bears danced the Super Bowl shuffle, and Diego Maradona touched the Hand of God. 

Portrait slams are body positive events that celebrate style and creativity. Let us know if you have questions about our theme and, as always, don't be afraid to get weird.

Models: 

Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. A 1980's streetwear inspired wardrobe will be provided on location by Jabali Fashions for models to incorporate into their look, beginning at 1pm - please don't miss this! A prize will be awarded to the model who rocks Jabali Fashions' wardrobe with the most creativity and style. Bring base neutrals you're confident in, and comfortable shoes to take full advantage of the large space. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different photographers in quick 10 minute sessions.

Photographers:

We appreciate it when photographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot.  Please try to arrive by 1:45pm. After checking in, browse Mildford Photo's selection of lighting equipment and Tamron's selection of lenses available for use on location. Milford Photo will be giving a prize away at the end to the photographer who gets most creative with equipment.  Explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, take a few test shots, and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 2pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Videography, off camera flash, and film photography are welcome but please check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.

COVID-19:

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, group size will be limited to safe levels for a large indoor space. All participants be will required to wear a mask indoors. Models can remove their masks only when shooting, once the slam officially begins. Portrait Slam props, equipment and supplies will be sanitized before, during, and after the slam. If you aren't feeling well, please stay home. Let's collaborate to have a safe and creative slam.

This invitation is required to attend. We work hard to curate a balanced & diverse group of creatives. To reserve your spot, please register and purchase your ticket after reading & agreeing to our rules on our website at portraitslam.com/rules.  Your ticket will become non-refundable after Jan. 12th. We appreciate word-of-mouth and if you'd like to suggest other models or portrait photographers for us to consider inviting, please let us know!
