Theme:

Throughout history, tales of mythical creatures have captured the human imagination in cultures across the world.  They often express the fears, desires, and values of human nature. Not all mythical creatures are sinister:  Madremonte protects floral and fauna from mankind. Xana spreads feelings of love and peace through her hypnotic singing and blesses weary travelers with water. Vodnik brings humble fisherman good luck. Shojo brews brinewine and revels in dance & drunkary.  Pegasus helps heros conquer their foes.  Ceasg grants three wishes when captured.  Faires, pixies, gnomes, elves and unicorns (although often considered tricksters) can be powerful allies when treated with respect.

For those looking to explore the darker realms of folklore: Basilsik murders with a single glance, Surale lures his victims into the forest and tickles them to death, Dames Blanches destroys those who don't dance, Herne the Hunter withers away trees, Chupacabre drinks livestock blood.  Wendigo has an appetite for human fleshand Banshee screams omens of death.

This theme is not a costume. Challenge yourself to incorporate a mythical creature into your own unique style.  Consider nature's influence and seek to harmonize with the Siskiyou forest.  Help inspire others by sharing outfits and/or accessories on Instagram - tag @portrait_slam and we'll share it.  As always, we celebrate individuality & creativity: please feel free to express that uniqueness. In other words, it's ok to get weird!

Models:

Themed wardrobe accessories will be provided on location by Medford's Tia Reagn Creative for models to incorporate into their look (furs, masks, hats, whismical jewlery, ect.) beginning at 4pm - please don't miss this! Prizes will be awarded to the model who rocks Tia's accessories with the most creativity. For styling advice reach out to Tia on Instagram at @TiaReaganCreative. Please bring your own undergarments! Consider spring weather and expect to layer up or down, bring base neutrals you're comfortable in, and sturdy shoes to take full advantage of the space. We encourage you to bring a warm robe to wear between collaborations.

Makeup: Jessica Banuelos will be offering free makeup styling on location before the slam, by appointment. Spots are limited - don't hesitate to reach out to Jessica on Instagram at @Baby_Cakes_Is_My_Name to schedule and exchange ideas. Thanks Jessica!
