Theme: Victorian Gothic 

Join us as we open the doors to one of Oregon's most historic buildings.  Vacant and vast with winding stairways, mysterious corridors, moody natural light, ancient redwood and exposed brick - a perfect setting for an Autumnal Equinox and a gothic themed slam. "Gothic" is an ambigious, shifting term that dates back to the late 18th century when the scientific "Age of Enlightment" gave way to a new interest in emotion, medieval castles, gloomy abbeys, damsels in distress, melancholic villans and the supernatural. Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, gothic style has been reenvisioned in literature (Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Dracula, Jane Erye), cinema (The Craft, From Hell, True Blood), music (The Cure, Bauhaus, Yōsei Teikoku), and fashion (victorian romanticism, Cyber-goth, Lolita-goth). Gothic genres often explore the tension between darkness and light. Robert Louis Stevenson said it best: “In each of us, two natures are at war - the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer. But in our own hands lies the power to choose - what we want most to be, we are.” For fashion inspiration, look towards the darker edges & corners of your imagination.  Use this slam as an opportunity to create incredible spooky content, just in time for the Halloween season. Not connecting with Victorian Gothic? Consider pulling ideas from darker fashion trends like Dark Academia, Gothcore, Mythical creatures, Whimsicore,  ect. Models:

Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. Vivant Vintage will have a curated collection of Gothic Halloween-Haunt inspired fashion on location, available for models to incporate into their look. Vivant Vintage has invited models to visit their shop to browse their collection. Bring a printed ticket for the slam & save 15%, if you decide to purchase anything. Remaining wardrobe will be brought to the slam. Consider October weather and expect to layer up or down, bring base neutrals you're confident in, and comfortable shoes to take full advantage of the space. Models will have their own dedicated changing space inside. Check-in, meet fellow creatives, browse the space for inspiring locations to shoot, & sample lighting & gear by Nanlite USA & Hunt's Photo & Video. Dynasty Models INC will be on hand to help assist with posing & inspire creativity.  Please be prepared to work with many different photographers and models in short micro sessions. Please try and arrive by 3:30pm. Introductions start at 4pm.

Photographers:

We appreciate it when photographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot.  Please try to arrive by 3:30pm. After checking in, browse Nanlite's selection of lighting equipment and Tamron's selection of lenses available for use (optional) on location. Hunt's Camera will be on-hand to assist. Explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, take a few test shots, and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions begin at 4pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Videography, off camera flash, and film photography are welcome but please check in with us before flying a drone.  We'll have a space inside dedicated to gear, if you need to set anything down. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.

This invitation is required to attend. To reserve your spot, please register and purchase your ticket after reading & agreeing to our rules on our website at portraitslam.com/rules.  Your ticket will become non-refundable after October 12th. Only registered participants are allowed to attend our events. Please check in with us in advance to request a special exception. We work hard to curate a balanced & diverse group of creatives. Please let us know in advance if you need to cancel. Invitations can be shared with other models, photographers & videographers.  We always appreciate word of mouth.
