Theme: Barbiecore Pool Party Fashion 

Barbie has had many iterations over the past 63 years, but her popularity has been surging this year in anticipation of the new "Barbie" movie coming out this August (featuring Margot Robbie as Barbie & Ryan Gosling as Ken). Barbiecore style is everywhere, from Valentino's entirely hot-pink runway show to a sea of pink at Coachella. Barbiecore includes bubblegum pink, bright candy colors, and 1980's retro beachwear/accessories. The pool will be available for photography and swimming throughout the slam. Bring your own towel or barbie-inspired floatie if you plan to swim. Barbie, Ken and company are controversial figures with complicated legacies but please remember that we celebrate diversity, body positivity, self-expression and creativity. Our theme is not a costume. Incorporate your own unique style into your look, let us know if you have any questions, and don't be afraid to get weird. 

Models:

Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. Laetitia Mihigo will be offering makeup touchups and micro sessions at first-come-first-serve, beginning at 9am. Local florist HazyDaisyFloralCo  is creating Barbie inspired floral artistry, available for models to incorporate into their looks - thanks Emily! Consider August weather and expect to layer up or down, bring base neutrals you're confident in, and comfortable shoes to take full advantage of the space. Models will have their own dedicated changing space inside the pool house. Check-in, meet fellow creatives, browse the space for inspiring locations to shoot, & sample lighting by Nanlite USA. Snaps Photo Booth will be on-hand to help captue the moment. Please be prepared to work with many different photographers and models in short micro sessions. Please try and arrive by 9:30am. Introductions start at 10am.

Photographers:

We appreciate it when photographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot.  Please try to arrive by 9:30am. After checking in, browse Nanlite's selection of lighting equipment and Tamron's selection of lenses available for use (optional) on location. Pro Photo Supply will be giving a prize away at the end to the photographer who gets most creative with equipment.  Explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, take a few test shots, and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 10am. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Videography, off camera flash, and film photography are welcome but please check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.

To reserve your spot, please register and purchase your ticket after reading & agreeing to our rules on our website at portraitslam.com/rules.  Your ticket will become non-refundable after August 16th. Only registered participants are allowed to attend our events. Please check in with us in advance to request a special exception. We work hard to curate a balanced & diverse group of creatives.
