Theme: Glam Rock Glam rock, also known as glitter rock, was a musical movement that began in Britain in the early 1970s and celebrated the spectacle of the rock star. Often dappled with decadent makeup, glam rockers adopted theatrical personas and mounted glamorous musical productions, frequently characterized by futurism. In addition to wearing extraterrestrial platform shoes and sequin jumpsuits, glam rockers donned vintage leather jackets and ducktail haircuts - styles that were so old they were no longer in fashion, choosing to combine them with things that appeared too futuristic to be in fashion yet. This partictular juxtaposition of styles provided a visual escape from reality and the present. Glam rock celebrated androgyny, helping redifine traditional tropes of masculinity through its unisex portrayal of male fashion. To see examples of glam rock fashion, visit this Pinterest page HERE or search #glamrockfashion on Instagram. If you'd like to exchange ideas and coordinate with others, join the Portrait Slam Forum on Facebook. Please remember, our fashion theme is not a costume. We celebrate diversity, body positivity, self-expression, style, and creativity. Let us know if you have any questions!
Models:
Please arrive dressed in theme and ready to shoot. The Clothes Horse is offering models the opportunity to stop by their store in Eugene to reserve "Glam Rock" inspired fashion, during the month of February. Wardrobe items will be brought to AOM Studios, saved for the models who reserved them, beginning at 2:00pm. The Clothes Horse will be giving away a prize at the end to the model who got most creative and playful with their wardrobe. Models will have their own dedicated changing space inside AOM Studios. We're currently seeking a local MUA(s) to offer touchups & creative micro sessions during arrivals - please let us know if you have any suggestions. Please try to arrive by 2:30pm. Check in, explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, practice with lighting from Focal Point Photography, meet other creatives, and browse wardrobe options before introductions begin at 3:00pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different photographers (and other models) in short micro sessions.
