About the Event

Comply with directives to stay home AND feed the need for creativity and connection during quarnantine! We're coordinating a collaboration with creatives from the safety of home via Zoom. Tools, technology, and context have shaped portraiture over time, and these few months have set off a major shift - join us in capturing the unique quality and texture of this period in global history.

  • PRIZE DRAWING: we'll be giving away a free Gorillapod Griptight tripod, perfectly designed for creative Zoom sessions and donated by Oregon's Focal Point Photography. Please stay until the end - a winner will be drawn at random, must be present to win. Thanks Focal Point!

Theme Research:

We encourage models and photographers to consider this moment in time, and how portraiture, fashion, and photography reflect the technology and political context of their time. This concept was introduced to Portrait Slam by Hector Puig (@puig_photography); check out his account as well as the hastag #lockdownportraits for ideas. If you haven't experimented with this concept yet, we encourage you to reach out for a practice session with a model or photographer in the Portrait Slam community.

Wardrobe, Hair & Makeup, & More:

Reflect the unique texture and mood of this moment by making use of what you have at home. For the first time, models have total control of the setting including lighting, decor, props, angles, etc. We encourage you to use what you already have to create an environment - this could mean embracing realism or creating a total mood to reflect what you and others are feeling. Consider CONTINUITY and the way hair, makeup, and wardrobe tell a story in your surroundings. Use a selfie-stick or tripod, or invite someone you're in quarantine with to be your videographer!

*As always, we celebrate individuality & creativity: please feel free to express that uniqueness. In other words, feel free to get wierd.

To reserve your spot, please register after reading & agreeing to How This Works on our website at portraitslam.com. We're always open to your suggestions for other models or portrait photographers to consider inviting; please let us know!
